Hi there! I'm Mat Camp.

I love to solve problems — all types of problems. During my 9-to-5, I like it if they relate to digital experiences. I'm always keen to hear about the next challenge I can help solve, so feel free to reach out.

I don't like to mince my words, and time is short so, I'll try to keep this brief. Below are the areas where I know I bring value to any role or project.

Product and project management
Agile is great — it's a list of ingredients from which you can create succesful projects, however, you still need to experiment to find the perfect\ recipe for each situation. It's not a one-size-fits-all approach. That's what I enjoy doing, and have done in the past.
Right mix of business and tech
I started my career as a developer - PHP, HTML/CSS/JS, MySQL, Linux, Apache, nginx. This experience helps me speak to developers and understand the root cause of blockers and challenges.
Metric focused and data driven
I trust my instinct, always, however an instinct tells you where to start looking for solid data that you can base a decision from. At every step of an agile build, it's important to have the data to answer the question of why are we building this, and, will it work. It's also important to put tracking layers into the work as it builds so we can measure its effectiveness and further optimise over time, or cut out features that didn't receive the hoped traction and move on.
Passion for people leading
Bringing a team together, to work towards a common goal, is a great accomplishment that I've experienced in the past. Success is best celebrated as part of a team.
Customer journey mapping
In past roles, one of the most enjoyable parts of planning for the web is considering the holistic view. How do we design a solution and content that contextually speaks to those coming from paid search, organic, email, or other channels. How do we leverage basic personlisation to deliver this whilst retaining a logical IA and footprint for crawlability and accessibility.
Clear communicator
Coming from a client facing tech role in the past, I learnt very quickly how to take the complex and make it comprehensible. The best projects are those that are most transparent. I take pride in managing internal and external relationships with integrity and honesty - this has served me well and has resulted in positive feedback and trusted long-lasting relationships in the past.

Qualifications & Skills

I don't have a bachelors degree. There, I said it. Could I have studied one, yes, but instead I chose to enter the workforce straight out of high school and so far, this was the right decision for my career.

I've done courses and qualifications progressively over time based on those that are most relevant to the work I'm doing at the time. I learn best when I have a real problem in front of me to solve and learning from other real life examples. To keep my knowledge and understanding current, I attend Meetups, read case studies and blogs, and attend conferences/professional development sessions when availabe.

Qualifications

2017: American Express & Harvard Certificate in Leadership Excellence
Provided by Harvard Business Publishing in collaboration with American Express, this 3 month course focused on how to be a great leader - strategy definition and management, people management, tough conversations.
2016: Product Owner Training
This 2 day course was delivered by TEK Systems and taught the required knowledgebase required to be a Product Owner in an Agile environment. Although I had been practicing Agile long before this, it was good to refresh and align my knowledge with industry trainers.
2014: Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing
Whilst living in London I studied part-time at The Institute of Digital Marketing (The IDM). I received a distinction after copmleting the 12 month diploma course, with a mark of 70%.
2009: Certificate IV in Graphic Design
I always had a passion for design, and dabbled in it, but undertaking this course allowd me to get an industry level understanding of how to create print ready content and design using both vector and pixel. I enjoyed the course immensely and was awarded Best in Class for my portfolio.
